SUMMARY:DCHS Home Tour: Roosevelt Terrace
DESCRIPTION:For the first time in roughly 20 years\, three unit owners of the Roosevelt Terrace will be opening their homes for public tours as a fundraiser for DCHS. Built in 1890 by James Roosevelt (FDR’s father)\, these grand gilded age historic condos designed by famed local architect Carl Wirth have been through the city’s boom and bust cycles and feature architectural elements from the last 133 years. On the national register of historic places\, these units contain multiple fireplaces (every one in the building is different)\, large open stairwells with skylights\, and large floor plans built into a dense development plan to maximize property usage in a time of the city’s boom era. This is a unique opportunity to see these historic brown stones built for the city’s elite residents and see “Green” and sustainable living which serve as a model for affordable housing with ownership in our community. Tickets are available at https://bookeo.com/dchswi If you are unable to make it and would like to sponsor a ticket for another guest or make a donation to the historical society please head to https://douglashistory.org/support/make-a-gift/ or Venmo @DouglasHistoryWI\nIf you need financial assistance to attend the event\, please contact the museum office. We will do our best to accommodate you. Please note\, this tour does feature many stairs for the the full experience.

SUMMARY:(Re)Collect: Opening Reception\, art meet and greet\, and community show and tell
DESCRIPTION:What do you collect and why? Join us Friday April 11th at 5pm for a meet and greet with the artist: Susanna Gaunt\, see odd items from our local history collection up for special display\, and bring an example of something you collect for a community show and tell.\nWorking with a variety of mediums such as drawing\, photography and printmaking\, Twin Ports based artist Susanna Gaunt analyzes the human condition through a philosophical and scientific lens. Inspired by historic European curiosity cabinets\, natural history museums and personal specimen collections\, she creates works that encourage curiosity and reflection. This exhibit\, (Re)Collect\, asks the viewer about their personal collecting habits\, and through this lens\, draws connections to our community’s Historical Society Collection\, one of the largest history collections in the state. Art from this exhibit is the work of Susanna Gaunt\, supplemented with items from the Historical Society. We would like to thank the Superior Public Art Commission for financially sponsoring this collaboration in our community and helping us offer this event and exhibit to the public without a fee.
